Carlow’s ladies footballers are preparing for a big afternoon this Sunday as they contest the Division 4 final against Leitrim.
Throw-in is at 2pm in Birr, with promotion already secured regardless of the result. However, there is still silverware on the line as Carlow look to cap off an impressive league campaign.
Captain Roisin Bailey has praised the influence of manager Ed Burke, who returned to the setup this season.
Speaking to KCLR, Bailey said Burke’s commitment and passion have made a major difference to the group.
“I can’t say enough about him. I said it to him — I think he has some Carlow blood in him somewhere. You can tell how much we mean to him and how much he wants us to achieve our goals. He is willing to do everything to get us to where we want to be.”
It promises to be a big day for Carlow football overall, with the senior men also beginning their championship campaign against Wicklow at Netwatch Cullen Park at 2.30pm — live on KCLR, thanks to Dan Morrissey & Co.
Elsewhere, it was disappointment for the Carlow under-20 footballers, who were beaten by Laois in the Andrew Corden Cup quarter-final on a scoreline of 3–17 to 2–17.
But the focus now turns to Sunday’s final in Birr, where Carlow’s ladies will look to finish their league campaign on a high and bring home the Division 4 title
