Carlow town has been named as a location for a new Solace Café.
The free, out-of-hours, non-clinical mental health crisis supports, offer a safe and welcoming alternative to an Emergency Department for adults experiencing
distress.
€330,000 has been provided for each of six new offerings at Carlow town, Wexford, North Tipperary and Louth, with two in Dublin.
Minister and local TD Jennifer Murnane O’Connor made the announcement with Minister for Mental Health, Mary Butler.
Minister O’Connor said; “I’m delighted that funding has been secured for a Solace Café in Carlow. The café will offer people listening and crisis support and practical help on how to access appropriate health and community services.”
She adds; “Solace Cafes are a safe space that help people struggling with their mental health. In other areas in the country they have resulted in a reduction in presentations to local accident and emergency departments. They are a complete gamechanger.”
