A high-level strategic forum titled ‘From Evidence to Action: Building Exercise Oncology into Everyday Cancer Care in Ireland’ takes place in the South East this morning.
The half-day event has been organised by the South East Technological University (SETU), with UPMC Ireland, and will take place at the college’s Cork Road, Waterford campus from 10:30am.
The gathering will include international experts, clinicians, researchers and people affected by cancer with keynote contributions from Kathryn Schmitz (University of Pittsburgh/UPMC), Anna Campbell (Edinburgh Napier University/CanRehab), Ciaran Fairman (University of South Carolina) and Peter Krustrup (University of Southern Denmark/Football is Medicine Denmark).
Aim is to explore how exercise can be embedded across the cancer care continuum, beginning in our region and informing wider national implementation.
It opens with a showcase of SETU’s research in exercise oncology, highlighting the real-world impact of this work for people living with and beyond cancer across the region. This includes community-engaged initiatives and applied research that are already supporting improved quality of life and recovery outcomes.
