News on emergency funding to repair storm-damaged roads in Carlow is imminent according to the County Council’s Chief Executive.
Up to 30 roads in the county were damaged during Storm Chandra leading to local authority personnel submitting a funding application to Central Government as the flood waters receded.
Coilín O’Reilly told KCLR News that his team’s keen to address all the repairs needed in the wake of such a poor winter, saying; “We were just talking to the TII inspector this week and we’re told that we will hear something this week so we’d be very hopeful that we receive some element of funding and it will help us address the issue with the roads that happened during the weather, even if we only get partial funding we can look at our roads programme and prioritise what needs to be done because the key thing is that it’s coming into peak road laying season once the weather goes ten degrees and above that’s when you want to be working on roads so we really need to know now and then we can just get onto it and reprioritise what needs to be done”.
