Local firefighters have been battling a series of blazes in the uplands of Carlow and Kilkenny over the past week or so.
The latest last night saw the focus again on Mount Leinster in the Nine Stones area with flames spotted from miles around.
It follows at least three recent trips to the area while their Kilkenny counterparts dealt with similar on Brandon HIll in Graignamanagh as well as a six-hour fight with a gorse fire at Cullintra in The Rower.
It’s pretty typical for this time of year unfortunately, some blaming traditional practices of scorching the earth to remove older matter and allow for new regrowth but often it can be due to the effects of litter on the landscape.
Emergency services have warned of how quickly these can spread and also of any activity that can put the wider public in danger.
