Gardaí in Kilkenny are calling out motorists who flash their headlights to warn other drivers about Garda activity.
The warning comes as a van driver, accused of using a mobile phone, while driving on the M9 motorway yesterday, was reportedly warned by other motorists as a Roads Policing Unit officer waited ahead on the ramp near Danesfort.
The offending driver drove off the motorway before immediately rejoining it and was later intercepted.
While the driver was not caught in the act, they were issued with a fixed charge notice with a €120 fine and 3 penalty points, based on a complaint received from a member of the public.
Gardaí say motorists who flash their headlights can interfere with operations targeting dangerous drivers, stolen vehicles and criminal activity.
