An Ireland South MEP is calling on the government to urgently begin its review of the Mother and Baby Institution Payment Scheme.
Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Funchion says survivors who have been excluded from the scheme cannot be left behind, and she criticised what she described as a lack of urgency from the government in progressing the review.
MEP Funchion outlined to KCLR News what changes she wants to see happen.
“So currently, if you were born into an institution and spent less than 180 days, which equates around six months, you’re not entitled to the redress. We want to see that change happening. We also want to see that all institutions are included.” said Kathleen.
