Councillors in Carlow have expressed growing frustration over the delay in receiving funding to repair roads damaged earlier this year.
Speaking after the monthly council meeting, Councillor Tommy Kinsella said engineers had already used part of the county’s regular roads budget to carry out urgent repairs, particularly in South Carlow.
He warned that unless the expected additional funding of around four million euros is approved soon, the county could face serious difficulties maintaining its road network.
Cllr. Kinsella also called on the Government for an immediate allocation.
“That’s not money that we’re looking for nothing. The damage was done and we needed it. And all the roads have been restored now, but we have used up the money that was allocated for the ordinary road. So we definitely would need this. And I’d be asking all involved, particularly our elected representatives, put as much pressure as possible on the department, on our government, to allocate this fund.” said Councillor Kinsella.
