Gardaí are urging owners of bicycles and e-scooters to improve security following a rise in thefts in Kilkenny city.
They say many of them are being left unsecured or in vulnerable locations, making them easy targets for thieves.
Advice is to park them in busy, well-lit areas where possible, and avoid leaving them unattended outside homes overnight.
Crime Prevention Officer Sgt. Eddie Brennan says a good lock is vital, noting; “Some of the areas we’d look at is the quality of the locks, the quality of the wire and the chains you’re using, they may not be very appealing on the eye but sometime having that slightly heavier, uglier type lock is often one of the better we find in preventing the theft of bikes”.
