Kilkenny Chamber is to seek an urgent meeting with all County Councillors and Elected representatives to express concerns regarding the city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.
It follows last evening’s briefing by local authority officials which was attended by representatives of about 50 businesses and comes ahead of the July Plenary meeting of the council where a decision on the SUMP will be made.
Issues raised include what appears to be a move towards pedestrianisation on a gradual and phased basis while also highlighted was the sequencing of proposed changes to traffic management in the city in the short to medium term – some believing further changes should be contingent on the completion of the Kilkenny Ring Road.
There was acknowledgment of the impact of the traffic flow changes at the Bennettsbridge Road Roundabout with proposed measures presented to Transport Infrastructure Ireland, though it’s not expected to see any changes there until at least next year.
