Is Limerick The Greatest Team Ever? John Mullane Thinks So

The latest episode of the KCLR Hurling Podcast is available to listen to now, with Eddie Scally and Michael Walsh reflecting on Sunday’s All-Ireland Final and asking whether Limerick have now cemented their place among the greatest teams the game has ever seen.

John Kiely’s side claimed a sixth All-Ireland title in nine years with a commanding 1-29 to 1-18 victory, with Cathal O’Neill producing a superb display, while Kiely praised the quality of his players after another historic success.

On this week’s podcast, Eddie and Micky revisit their Championship Team of the Year following the final and debate whether Sunday’s performances have forced any late changes.

The pair also discuss the Player of the Year race, with Walsh explaining why he believes Limerick star Gearóid Hegarty deserves the honour.

“He was the one that was very consistent, whereas others had great days in and out, every day he produced when needed.”

Former Waterford great John Mullane suggested Limerick may now have surpassed even Brian Cody’s all-conquering Kilkenny teams as the greatest side the sport has seen.

When asked for his verdict, Walsh admitted his Kilkenny loyalties made the question an impossible one to answer.

“I am from Kilkenny so I will say Kilkenny. You admire great champions, and great champions both of those teams were, so maybe a draw!”
