The Kilkenny junior and intermediate hurling leagues get underway this weekend, with Lisdowney beginning life back in the intermediate grade after last year’s senior relegation.
They open their campaign on Friday night against reigning junior champions Barrow Rangers at Canon Kearns Park, in what promises to be an early test for Richie McEvoy’s side.
After dropping out of the senior ranks for the second time in five years, McEvoy admits relegation was disappointing, but says the club takes confidence from having previously proved it can compete at the highest level.
Speaking to KCLR Sport, he said there is a real sense of optimism around the squad ahead of the new season.
“It’s encouraging to know we are capable of being there. It’s not ideal after getting relegated twice in the last five years.
“But the fact we have been there and been half competitive would give you a small bit of confidence that you could go and do it again.
“The intermediate championship is one of the toughest in the country, we will take nothing for granted.”
Lisdowney will be hoping to make the perfect start on Friday evening as they look to lay the foundations for an immediate return to the senior ranks.
