Kilkenny Chamber says ‘significant progress’ has been achieved with regards to the proposed Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.
The SUMP aims to outline how we might better move in and around the city centre but elements of its proposals have proved controversial, including an aim to trial the pedestrianisation of High Street.
Chamber President Claire McInerney Brown organised two town-hall style meetings of its members with key local authority figures and others attending.
The county council held a special meeting last week where representatives voted unanimously to pass the plan, having adopted a proposed amendment suggested by Chamber.
This includes;
• Delivery of Park & Ride, Park & Stride, bus network enhancements, mobility hubs, and logistics solutions before any restrictions are introduced
• Prioritisation of the Ring Road critical infrastructure, including the Freshford Road to Kilmanagh Road link as highlighted in the Chamber’s earlier letter
• Evaluations including economic impact assessments to guide future phases
• The ability to pause, reverse, or modify measures if negative impacts arise.
Collaboration between the two bodies is set to continue.
