Kilkenny Council and Land Development Agency to build over 300 homes in Kilkenny

Plans are being advanced for new homes at Kilkenny’s Abbey Quarter and Sweeney’s Orchard.

The Abbey Quarter Development Director Tony Lauhoff says the council is working with the Land Development Agency on a mix of social, cost-rental and private housing.

Around 30 percent could be social housing, with cost-rental homes potentially offered at rents 25 percent below market rates.

Mr Lauhoff told KCLR News that’s its a significant project for the area. “You’re looking at, in the order of, 320 units between the Abbey Quarter site itself and then Sweeney’s Orchard site, which is adjoining the Abbey Quarter, which is just immediately to the north of St. Francis Bridge. So it’s a significant development for the city center: 320 residential units.”
