County Kilkenny town residents concerned to see fire break out at popular amenity site

There were concerns in one county Kilkenny town last night on seeing smoke billowing. 

Visit Callan reports a fire broke out at the Moat but it appears it was brought under control quickly before significant damage could be caused;

The historic green space has at its centre a motte and bailey beside which the Abhainn Rí, Kings River, flows.

In recent years the Kilkenny County Council management of the grounds as a public amenity has seen them add walkways and seating.
