11 County Carlow community projects to share almost €50,000 under Local Environmental Action Fund

Eleven community projects across Carlow are to share nearly 50 thousand euro in funding under the Local Environmental Action Fund.

The money will support local green initiatives, including community building upgrades, energy audits, and food forest workshops.

Purchase of bikes for community use in partnership with PDLS, to encourage active travel within the community.

Bagenalstown Improvement Group & Bagenalstown FC
Installation of rainwater harvesting system to support sustainable water management in the Bagenalstown FC facilities.

Ballinkillen Lorum Community Centre Club
Upgrading community hall windows to improve thermal efficiency of the hall.

Ballymurphy Hall Committee
Replacement of internal lights with LED lights to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Carlow Beekeepers Association
Upgrade of CBA’s facilities to improve pollinator habitat and to create a space for hosting volunteers & workshops.

Carlow Town Sustainable Energy Community
Provision of energy audits for community facilities throughout Carlow Town to inform future decarbonisation measures and retrofit investments.

County Carlow Environmental Network
Public workshops on how to create food forests.

DTA Tullow Tidy Towns and Climate Action Committee
Biodiversity and environmental measures, including swift conservation, rainwater harvesting, and traffic monitoring to inform future sustainable travel activities.

St. Fiacc’s Swimming Pool and Community Hall CLG
Purchase of smart meters to monitor and reduce energy consumption.

Tinryland Community Hub CLG
Delivery of sustainable food growing workshops for the community.

Welcoming the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, Cllr. Thomas Kinsella, said; “The response to the IPB LEAF Fund has been outstanding and highlights the enthusiasm that exists within communities across County Carlow to take meaningful environmental action. These projects may vary in scale, but collectively they will make a real difference in supporting biodiversity, reducing emissions, building local climate action capacity and creating more sustainable communities.”

The local authority’s Chief Executive Coilín O’Reilly added; “Carlow County Council is extremely grateful to IPB Insurance for their support in making this fund possible. As IPB celebrates 100 years of supporting local authorities, it is fitting that this investment will leave a lasting environmental legacy within communities throughout County Carlow.”
