Disruption’s facing some local parents and guardians again this morning.
Schools were closed yesterday due to the public sector strike and today some will opt to stay closed or open a little later for a different reason.
It follows what’s been described as a ‘threatening email’ which was sent to a number of schools across the country, including in our locality, warning of potential attacks. (Similar to what happened last May for 20 schools in Carlow).
A Garda spokesperson last night confirmed to KCLR News that they were aware of “a communication” that had been sent to a number of educational establishments and are assessing its contents and credibility while engaging with those in receipt.
Parents in schools impacted will be contacted by staff there directly.
While many believe it to be a hoax, searches have been carried out at a number of premises and a garda investigation is underway.
Gardaí called to five secondary schools in Carlow alone yesterday as part of the investigation process.
Stay tuned for updates.
