Keir Starmer has stepped down as UK Prime Minister, prompting a leadership race within the Labour Party.
Kilkenny Labour Councillor Sean O’hArgáin described the move as disappointing but expected, following declining support after recent local elections and a series of political setbacks.
He pointed to communication challenges, policy decisions, and controversies as factors that weakened Mr. Starmer’s position.
Cllr. O’hArgáin expressed hope that a new leader potentially Andy Burnham can reconnect with voters, strengthen ties with the EU, and push back against growing right-wing influence.
He also argued Brexit has harmed Britain and misled voters, but believes Labour will stay in power without an immediate general election.
