Irish Music Month is nearly here, which means our search for entries to A New Local Hero is close to the end.
We’re on the hunt for artists and bands making original music in Kilkenny and Carlow – any age, any genre, any style – as look for A New Local Hero to flag the flag for local music across Kilkenny and Carlow.
With Irish Music Month returning from 14 September to 11 October, we’re going to be playing even more Irish music, more local music, talking to more acts, and if you’re making music locally, then we want to hear from you.
From all the submissions we receive before 6 September, we’ll pick four acts to compete in the search for A New Local Hero – those four acts getting paid €875 to perform a live studio session to be broadcast on air during Irish Music Month. One of the four acts will be crowned KCLR’s New Local Hero, joining selections from over 20 other radio stations around Ireland. The top six, as voted by industry judges, will take to the stage in Dublin’s ‘Academy in October for the national final, pocketing another €1400 on the way to a potential €10,000 top prize.
That top prize includes €5,000 in cash and a further €5,000 in support, including mentoring, studio recording time, mixing, mastering and a single release. That’s before we get to guaranteed airplay on every radio station taking part in Irish Music Month.
So what are you waiting for?
