A number of Carlow Kilkenny TDs are among the names believed to be in contention for a Minister of State role.
Having appointed his Cabinet last week, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin will reveal the line up of Junior Ministers today with 19 set to be named.
There will be a slight advantage to Fianna Fáil over Fine Gael in the number appointed, with Mr Martin expected to favour women in a bid to gender balance his overall appointments.
So, while Kilkenny based John McGuinness is our longest serving in the Deputy position, it’s thought his party counterpart from Carlow Jennifer Murnane O’Connor might pip him to the post with Niamh Smyth and newcomers Catherine Ardagh, Aisling Dempsey and Erin McGreehan in contention.
While Fine Gael may reward Catherine Callaghan who’s said to be among a number of first-timers, including John Cummins and Emer Currie, up for consideration.
Also hoping for a promotion will be Charlie McConalogue, Timmy Dooley, Michael Moynihan, Paul McAuliffe, Christopher O’Sullivan and Cormac Devlin.
Stay tuned to hear reaction from people locally.
