A number of local people from the Carlow and Kilkenny area who are in Israel are so far safe with some aiming to travel home in the coming days.
A surprise weekend attack by Hamas fighters has now seen more than 700 Israelis dead with 500 more Palestinians killed in retaliatory strikes on Gaza.
KCLR News is aware of a family with local ties who are in the country, they say they’re okay for now.
While five people from Kilkenny are part of a group of fifty Irish people who are on pilgrimage there. (Please note the number of locals was confirmed at five after the conversation piece below when it was believed three were impacted).
Mayor Joe Malone has been telling KCLR News’ Edwina Grace that the hope is they depart as planned;
Meanwhile, at least one local building lit up in blue and white in support of the people of Israel over the weekend.
