It’s a welcome addition to our fleet and it’s already making an impact.
That’s the view of Waterford, Kilkenny and Carlow regional roads policing inspector Paul Donohue.
It’s as over 100 people have been caught by the latest addition to the Garda fleet.
A white, unmarked truck cab is being used to spot people on their phones or driving while distracted.
Last month alone, the force fined 421 people for using a phone while driving.
Speaking to KCLR news inspector Donohue said phones have become a huge distraction for drivers.” We welcome this addition as it’s catching people driving dangerously. If you’re texting on your phone and hiding it out of sight then you’re distracted. You’re a danger to yourself and others on the road. It’s important people put the phone away during a journey and drive safely.”
