Gardaí are looking to jog the memories of people out and about in the Damerstown area of Castlecomer this evening last week.
They’re bidding to find witnesses to an attempted burglary at a home there while its owner was away – while some damage caused to the alarm box there nothing was taken.
The incident happened at about 9:45pm last Friday (6th September) and Garda Andy Neill has been telling KCLR News that; “The culprit or culprits entered the home via an upstairs window utilising a basketball hoop to climb up the side of the house, it is believed though that they were immediately spooked and left via a downstairs door before making their escape”.
Garda Neill believes actions taken by the homeowner helped to foil theft of items, noting; “It was the alarm that indeed triggered their exit from the premises we believe, the householder had taken the added precaution of making keyholders aware of their departure meaning that there was immediate activity that ensured their speedy departure”.
Anybody who noticed suspicious activity in the area at any point of the evening should contact Castlecomer Garda Station on 056 444 1 222.
