284 patients were on trolleys in the corridor or on inpatient wards at St Luke’s Hospital in the last month.
Nationally the trolley figures for March were the worst in over 10 years according to the Irish Nurses & Midwives organisation.
A statement from the HSE says St Lukes is a busy hospital with surges in activity from time to time in the Emergency Department and Medical assessment unit.
It says the situation will greatly improve when the new Acute Medical assessment unit opens at the hospital later this year.
However, speaking to KCLR, General Secretary of the INMO, Liam Doran, says the only way of solving the problem is to spend more money.
