Kilkenny Mayor Andrew McGuinness year-long term as Cathaoirleach of the Southern Regional Assembly comes to a close.
During his tenure, he represented the southern region at the European Parliament and helped oversee EU funding for projects across the region, including in Kilkenny.

Speaking to KCLR News, Councillor McGuinness said he hopes to see greater public awareness of the Assembly’s role, “a lot of people don’t understand that and it’s because the information isn’t put out in a kind of a PR type way.”
“I would like to see more of that and more attention to the work that’s been done by regional assembly’s throughout the country,” he added.
