A 30 foot sink-hole has developed near Galmoy Mine in North Kilkenny.
The council has confirmed it was first alerted to it on Saturday afternoon.
Its about 300 metres from the mines. The area has been cordoned off and a road nearby was closed too.
The company has been liaising with the council, the EPA and the Department of Energy & natural resources.
County Manager Joe Crockett says its not clear whether the event is connected with recent weather conditions.
The area was quickly cordoned off and the County Manager has told KCLR news that there doesn’t appear to be any risk to public safety or to the public water supply.
