Armed robbery at Kilkenny city Post Office described as “terrifying”
Anybody who noticed suspicious activity on High Street before, during or after the incident is asked to come forward

A local garda has described as terrifying yesterday’s armed robbery in Kilkenny city.
A man aged in his thirties entered the High Street Post Office with a hammer – he demanded cash and fled but was arrested with the monies recovered.
Sgt Conor Egan on KCLR today said; This was a terrifying ordeal for both staff and customers and whilst we have a person of interest in custody, I suppose we have an appeal for witnesses that anybody in the vicinity of High Street yesterday at approx 3:30 that saw suspicious activity either before, during or after the robbery to contact my colleagues in Kilkenny”.
He adds “Any drivers who were on High Street at around 3:30 that may have dashcam footage if they wouldn’t mind giving us a call and assisting us with that we’d really appreciate it”.
The man arrested is still being detained at the Kilkenny city Garda Station this morning.
Sgt Egan also said; “I believe that the post office closed yesterday and has reopened this morning, fortunately nobody sustained any serious injury but you can imagine the trauma and the ordeal, like it’s terrifying somebody, you know, the roaring and the shouting and the banging of the hammer for both staff and customers”.
