Back today to start a new year on the radio and with a bit of a cold along with just about everyone I know! It was a lovely Christmas for me and my family- I trust it was for you too.
This morning it was all about pubs and maybe losing many more in 2013, holidays in lovely places with some great value out there, the oldest woman in Ireland who died on New Years’ Eve and her grandaughter Geraldine’s charming tribute to her on the show.
I am delighted that having been intrigued by the sight of the Three Friars on the back road to Waterford at a place called Smithstown, we are to find out more in the New Year about the three stone conical shapes that grace a hill in South Kilkenny. One of the Friars toppled over last year and as local people made a bid to have him re-erected they were rewarded with the promise of extensive investigations of the site by Kilkenny County Council. The Friars are much much older than their more recent existence as a memorial to three soldiers who were murdered by Cromwell’s troops.
More as the story develops.
