Books of condolence have opened in Carlow and Kilkenny today allowing locals to express their sympathies with the families of the Irish students who died in yesterdays balcony collapse in Berkeley California.
An emergency response line for concerned friends and families of those affected by the tragedy has received over 500 calls.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs says consular assistance is being provided in California for the families of the victims.
A book of condolence has opened at the council offices on the Athy road in Carlow this morning and another at city hall in Kilkenny has been organised
