20 primary schools in Carlow have been selected to take part in a councilling and mental health pilot.
As part of the Wellbeing Grant Scheme, they’ll each receive 2 thousand euro with the money going towards things such as sensory equipment, wellbeing gardens, and ambassador programmes.
The idea is to help schools provide early mental health support to children; Dublin and Cork are also involved in the pilot.
Carlow/Kilkenny TD Peter Chap Cleere says the hope is to expand the scheme: “So it’s very flexible in terms of the criteria, but it’s a really good pilot project and as I said, the intention would be that it wants it successful in Carlow that have been rolled out at the schools right across the rest of Kilkenny and the country.”
