Extra buses had to be hired locally by the INMO to bring nurses and midwives to Dublin for today’s march.
It gets underway at 12.30 at the Garden of Remembrance.
Thousands are set to take part – including many members of the public who want to show their support.
Speaking to KCLR News, Liz Curran from the INMO in Kilkenny says this is the first time in 20 years a march like this has taken place:
“We have marched before to support other public sector marches. But this is the first one I can remember in the 20 years that I’ve been doing trade union business that it’s been a march just about nursing and midwifery.
“The last one was in 1996 when thousands upon thousands of nurses – myself included – thronged the streets of Dublin and marched up to College Green.”
