A cast of thousands, including hundreds of primary school pupils from Carlow and Kilkenny, will take to the SETU Arena stage in Waterford this weekend for the 2026 Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland Peace Proms.
Among the local schools taking part is Saint Michael’s National School in Danesfort, whose choir has been preparing for tonight’s 8pm concert for the past four months.
Teacher and choirmaster Cormac Harraghy told KCLR News that rehearsing for the concert has provided the pupils with a different type of learning experience.
“Since October, you know, we started working with the lyrics with all the songs, you know, all the students have their own booklets, and it’s kind of a really nice opportunity at the end of each day for a quick, you know, 10-15 minutes to go through some of the songs together, you know, to see the joy on the children’s faces, especially with songs, you know, popular songs that they’re really familiar with, they really love that, and never mind me teaching the choreography to them, they’re the ones teaching the choreography to me, so it’s been fantastic.” said Cormac.
