You’re being encouraged to get involved in Culture Night this evening.
Events are taking place across the country as part of the initiative which began 21 years ago.
It sees spaces thrown open to the public to enjoy a range of activities for free.
And though traditionally offerings run in the evening and at night time, this year there are a number starting earlier in the day.
Carlow
There’s plenty to enjoy again across Carlow with 250th anniversary celebrations of the Church of the Holy Cross in Myshall to African storytelling and more.
While offerings ‘as gaeilge’ include the following:
KILKENNY
With the collaboration of actress and singer Susie Lamb and the support of the Watergate Theatre, the Kilkenny Traveller Community Movement is taking part in its first ‘Culture Dolomi’, celebrating Traveller culture, music, language, stories and traditions.
Their event from midday includes:
- Music by Caitlin Donovan, whose music celebrates Traveller culture, keeping Traveller traditions and heritage alive.
- A poem read by Polly Connors from the Carlow Travellers Forum, translated from English into Cant, the Traveller language.
- The launch of a short film, “Who Are We Now”, featuring Traveller women sharing their experiences and reflecting on the changes in Traveller women’s lives over the decades.
- A question and answer session moderated by Susie Lamb and Star Stokes
