Carlow councillor hit by phone scam

A local councillor says he’s a ‘victim of my own stupidity’ after being scammed. 

Brian O’Donoghue regularly warns of bogus calls, texts and emails but yesterday fell foul of one himself.

He had received a message via Whatsapp looking for a code that had apparently been sent to him in error with a follow-up note asking again before the number rang him.

Initially ignoring that too, with the number and profile appearing to be legitimate and on discovering the code that was requsted, Cllr Donoghue decided to follow up as he told The KCLR Daily;
