Carlow Councillor says sugar factory lime kiln should be made a monument

carlowsugarfactorysiteA Carlow Councillor believes a lime-kiln on the former site of the Carlow sugar factory should be retained as a “monument of shame” to Greencore

The company recently submitted a proposal to the Carlow development plan to have the structure delisted as a protected structure.

The idea was proposed by local councillor Jim Townsend who says it should be left there in order to remind people of the mistakes which were made during the Celtic Tiger era.

He says something needs to be done with the structure there.
