A Carlow Fianna Fail Councillor has refused to say which candidate will have his support at the party selection convention for the by-election next Monday.
Fintan Phelan has declared himself out of the race ahead of that but says he is fully behind whoever gets picked. His Carlow colleague Jennifer Murnane O Connor, former TD Bobby Aylward and Kilkenny Councillor Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere remain in contention.
Paddy McKee also bowed out in recent weeks and declared that Bobby Aylward would have his full support.
But Councillor Phelan didn’t like to say who he would be backing.
