It’s hoped an audit into how Children’s Health Ireland is approaching spinal surgeries will finally bring waiting lists down for vital treatment.
€19million was allocated for the service in 2019 and the Minister for Health has ordered a review into what the money has been used for.
People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny says families are losing patience and trust in the current system.
While Carlow Kilkenny Sinn Féin TD Kathleen Funchion is calling on the Government to address the growing waiting lists for children with scoliosis and spina bifida by engaging with, listening to, and acting on the concerns of parents, advocates, and clinicians.
She says that children deserve better, but that Government had failed to meet the promise made by Minister Simon Harris in 2017 that no child will be left waiting longer than four months for surgery. Waiting lists for scoliosis-related surgery are now worse than they were when Minister Harris gave that commitment.
Stay tuned to The KCLR Daily (10am to 1pm) when Deputy Funchion will be discussing this topic and others with our Brian Redmond.
