A local TD has admitted that many families and workers across Carlow and Kilkenny feel completely disenfranchised by this week’s budget.
Fine Gael Deputy Catherine Callaghan acknowledged the deep public frustration over skyrocketing everyday living costs, including the price of kerosene heating oil.
She says the government needs to keep emergency funds in reserve for unpredictable international pressures,
“There is potential that that is going to get worse. Like what’s happening over in the Middle East at the moment, we see the impact that it has had on everyday life.”
“Fuel has gone up in the sky, and believe it or not, like across Europe, petrol and diesel, particularly, the average is €2.40. The government is trying to do the best that it can with a with an eye into the future as well, because that’s critically important, that should it get worse, we have the the backup there.“
