A local TD has described Mary White as a formidable woman, very interested in politics who wanted to influence the direction of the country.
John McGuinness was paying tribute to the former Senator who passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday.
Ms White served as a Fianna Fáil senator from 2002 to her retirement in 2016 and she held the position of honorary vice-president of the party for a number of years.
Deputy McGuinness told KCLR that she was a trailblazer for women in politics. “I had great respect for Mary White. I think that she certainly blazed the trail in a world of men, really, back then in politics.”
“She showed women, young and old, that you could get into politics and be successful, but she influenced policy as well. When I say she was a formidable woman, I have seen her debate policies on enterprise, and she was not afraid to put forward her views, and her views were based on being an active working businesswoman.”
John spoke to Brian Redmond on The KCLR Daily:
