Carlow man says more should be done to preserve and protect burial sites belonging to Duckett Family

A Carlow history enthusiast says burial sites belonging to the Duckett family should be in the care of the state.

James Doyle, who’s grandfather worked as a gardener for the family, has been photographing and documenting some of the sites which are now in private ownership but have fallen into serious disrepair.

He says that only one of the plaques at the family graveyard at Russellstown is now legible, while the headstones are all broken or knocked over.

Speaking to KCLR News, James says it’s sad to see, considering how important the Duckett Family and their legacy are to Carlow. He says these sites need the protection of the state.
