Carlow mother and son call for improvements to mental health services locally

“All I’m getting is voicemails” – the words of a Carlow man who says he’s been trying to get bereavement counselling for months.

Murt and his mother Margaret are highlighting the need for mental health services to be improved in Carlow and Kilkenny.

Earlier this year, Murt – who already suffers from depression – found his brother Patrick dead in his room from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

Murt says he was told by a doctor months ago that he needed urgent help dealing with the loss of his brother.

But he told KCLR that he hasn’t been able to access any counselling service.
