In the Allianz national hurling league Div 2 A, Carlow hurlers suffered their first defeat at the hands of Kerry at Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday. Kerry the better team on the day commanded the game from the start and held a four point lead 0-15 to 1-8 at half time. Carlow not playing well rallied in the final minutes and drew level with a Marty Kavanagh free as the game entered time added on. It was short lived as from the puck out Kerry won a free and Padraig Boyle pointed as time ran out.Final Score, Kerry 1-24 (27), Carlow 3-17 (26)
This loss puts Carlow under pressure as there are now three teams, Westmeath, Carlow and Kerry in contention for a final place. Derry also have a chance of qualifying. Carlow Play Westmeath next Sunday in Mullingar at 2-00 pm
In the Allianz national football league, Carlow footballers also felt heart break as they went down by a point to Offaly in Tullamore. In a game of good football Carlow trailed by a point at the break Offaly 0-5 Carlow 0-4, On the restart Carlow took control and a Darragh O’Brien goal midway through the last half gave them a three point lead 1-9 to 0-9, however, Offaly rallied and in the closing stages edged out by a point and try as they might Carlow could not get the equalizer, Final Score, Offaly 0-14, Carlow 1-10.
In the Leinster minor hurling league Carlow minor hurlers were beaten by Westmeath at St. Lomans on Saturday. It finished Westmeath 1-20, Carlow 0-9.
