I first met Clare Sands a few years back was immediately struck by her songwriting enthusiasm and undoubted musical ability. Time has marched on and Clare’s talent as a musician and songwriter has blossomed and more people are aware of it now, which is as it should be.
Her first album showed her influences and yet it was all her own work. She has spent time travelling and listening and these new experiences (including a trip to Cuba) have made their mark on her recent work.
Notable also is the latest single which she produced with guitarist and producer Jimmy Smyth – true kindred spirits in more ways than one – and it shows in the sounds they made together.
Clare came to Kilkenny recently to play and chat about her latest songs, to spill the beans on the creative differences and how the balance between obsession and completion came about. She also plays a fine fiddle, her traditional roots showing with her own unique style.
Always a pleasure, always a blast…
