Tributes are being paid to a Ferrybank woman and her child following their deaths this week.
Aoife Bird (née Oates), formerly of 18 St Killian’s Place, Ferrybank, died on 26 November 2025 — just one day after her newborn daughter Ailbhe Bird passed away on 25 November.
It’s understood both died “following a sudden illness” at the Regional Hospital, Mullingar.
Originally from Ferrybank, Aoife moved to Ballymulmore, Longwood in Co. Meath, where she and her husband Jim raised their young family
She was a teacher at Ashbourne Community School doing Spanish, Business and SEN.
Ferrybank GAA and Camogie Club said they were “deeply saddened” by the deaths and extended “heartfelt condolences” to Aoife’s husband Jim, their son Daithí, and the entire Oates/Freeman family.
Slieverue GAA and Camogie Club also offered their sympathy, acknowledging the shock felt by the wider community.
Aoife will repose at her parents’ home in Ferrybank (18 St Killian’s Place, X91 CFK8) on Sunday 30 November, from 2pm to 6pm, with the rosary at 5.30pm.
She will re-pose on Monday 1 December at the family home in Ballymulmore, Longwood, Co. Meath (A83 WC89) from 2pm.
The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday 2 December at 11am in St Brigid’s Church, Boardsmill, Trim, Co. Meath (C15 EV12), with burial afterwards in Clonee Cemetery, Longwood.
