A woman in her 50s has died after she was struck by a car on the N25 New Ross Bypass.
It happened just after 7pm last evening at Stokestown.
No other injuries were reported and the scene is due to undergo a technical examination with the route closed to traffic.
South Kilkenny Cllr Fidelis Doherty says there’s huge sadness in the area telling KCLR News; “Yes indeed, there was an accident yesterday evening on the New Ross Bypass Bridge and an unfortunate outcome, it was the first occasion for a road traffic accident, the bridge opened on the 30th of January, 2020, sympathies and condolences to all the persons involved.”
She adds “A very sad time of the year coming up to Christmas, just to say thanks to the guards, the fire brigade service and the ambulance service, it’s with great sadness that we record the first accident on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge and we’re thinking of everybody involved”.
