The lime kiln is an “eyesore” and is only going to end up costing the council if it’s made a protected structure.
That’s the view of a number of Carlow County Councillors as the future of the last remnant of the sugar factory was discussed at yesterday’s monthly meeting.
Greencore, who own the site, want to demolish it but it was decided yesterday that it should be protected until a period of public consultation has been completed.
Five councillors voted against its protection, one of whom was Tommy Kinsella.
He told KCLR News that he feels Carlow needs to move on.
