Three areas in County Carlow have been added to the Government’s designated rural funding programme.
CLÁR is a targeted funding scheme that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in eligible rural areas that have experienced significant levels of de-population, socio-economic disadvantage or geographic remoteness.
Leighlinbridge-based Councillor Michael Doran described the stream as a useful source of funding for a range of local projects, telling KCLR News; “Any type of roads or infrastructure, anything like that, community groups can apply or council can get funding for things like road improvements and safety features, bus shelters, stuff like that, so that’s really welcomed so in this round Clár has been extended in the areas, in Leighlinbridge which is particularly good news here, Borris and Clonegal, so those areas and groups in those areas can avail of funding that’s available there now so it’s really welcome that that has expanded”.
