“I don’t want another flood”.
So a resident of Graignamanagh told An Taoiseach Micheál Martin when he called to her home to see how it was damaged by recent flooding.
Outside, a skip was full of belongings with crockery and pots left on the window sill as the clean-up is underway inside.
Hers was one of a number of houses to welcome in a group which included Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, Minister Jennifer Murnane O’Connor with her fellow Carlow Kilkenny Fianna Fáil TDs John McGuinness and Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere flanked them, with councillors Brian ‘Bruno’ Cleere and Deirdre Cullen as well as representatives of various branches of Kilkenny County Council.
The Taoiseach began his visit at Turf Market carpark, meeting some of the crew who’ve been at the coalface over the past week;
KCLR News’ Edwina Grace was in Graignamanagh and spoke to the Taoiseach, Ministers and some of those whose lives have been impacted by the weather;
Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor and Deputy John McGuinness also spoke to KCLR News;
Many of the group then moved onto Carlow town before winding down the visits in Aughrim, Co Wicklow.
