The Residential Tenancies Board says rent increases in Kilkenny are above the national average of 8.9% but Carlow’s price hikes were the lowest in the country over the past year.
The latest RTB figures shows the average rent for new tenancies nationally was €1,544 in the first three months of the year.
The lowest increase in the county was in Carlow where they went up 2% in the past year to €1,16 a month.
In Kilkenny the cost for renters looking for somewhere to live increased by 10.5% to €1,143.
The two local counties are both among 16 that had rents above the €1,000 mark.
Dublin is still the most expensive place to rent with an average price of €2,102.
