Defence Minister to review local troops bound for Syria in Kilkenny today

The Defence Minister will today review the troops from James Stephens barracks bound for Syria in the coming weeks.

130 troops of the the 44th infantry group will deploy for a six month tour of duty to the Golan Heights later in March.

16 of the personnel are from Kilkenny and there’s 7 from Carlow.

Today Minister Alan Shatter will inspect the troops as their family members gather at the local barracks ahead of their departure for Syria.
